2010 Natural Sires
Our senior herd sire for 2010 was DVE Davidson Redneck. We purchased Redneck to use as an outcross bull on our replacement heifers. Redneck lived up to our expectations with his first calf crops averaging 73 pounds at birth, and pushing down the scales at an average of 750 pounds at weaning. His first son sold for $4000 in the ND Golden Rule Sale, and his second son was the high selling red bull in the VanderVorst dispersion sale. We lost Redneck in the summer of 2010, so this will be his final calf crop at PHG. ![]()
Our third sire for 2010 was SGRI Elway. Elway came to us from Hojer Gelbvieh of SD. The Elway calves all exhibit the same ruggedness and length found in their sire, and the daughters have the extra capacity to go out and be top performers. This will be the only group of Elway calves to sell as we only had him on a 1 year lease. We have assembled a tremendous group of herd bulls for 2011 to move our program forward. These bulls have all been selected to compliment our newly expanded cow herd and produce calves that will make our customers money. Our senior herdsire is DVE Davidson Payday. We purchased Payday from Davidson Gelbvieh in Canada in 2010. He is possibly the deepest chested Gelbvieh bull we have seen and should prove to compliment some of our existing American bloodlines. His first calves began arriving in February of 2011 and they are packed full of beef! PHG Womanizer W24 is our second senior herd sire. Womanizer was retained for our in-herd use and was mated to a group of our highest performing, most consistent females. His first calves began arriving in March of 2011 and they are awesome. They come easy, have his cleanliness and thickness, and hit the ground growing. They will be an exciting group going forward! RWG Why My 9515 is a new addition to our herd bull battery. We were looking for an outcross black sire, and after some arm twisting, Royal Western Gelbvieh agreed to sell us this awesome coming 2 year old bull. He's nearly as wide as he is tall, and has an awesomely clean front and deep chest. Look for his first calves in Canada this fall, and the US in spring of 2012. NGC X Rated 84X, purchased from BNH Livestock is a new addition to our junior herd sires. We saw this awesome red calf when we toured through Alberta this summer. He and his sweet Black Image 31Y dam immediately caught our eye. Absolute and complete outcross to all US pedigrees, including Freedom. RWG Final Thrust 0535 is another addition to our junior herd sires. This super cool red calf has been on our list since we saw him in September. He was only 3 months old at that point, and we already knew he was going to be awesome. Check out the pics of him at 3 months, and his picture perfect mama! His dam is one of the best looking red Gelbvieh cows we've ever seen. Seeing her with Final Thrust at side made the decision to purchase even easier. This guy has maintained his picture perfect profile as he matures. He obviously has a bright future ahead of him! RWG Xtreme 0552 is another new member of our bull crew. We saw Xtreme on our tour this summer and he stood out for his cleanliness, hair, and picture perfect profile. Since weaning Xtreme has been hammering a 5 pound ADG. This, coupled with his awesome DNA numbers made him an easy choice. COLB Mr. Xavier X812 was purchased out of the stalls at the 2011 National Western from Collin Berkley. He was second in class to the eventual National Champion Bull. This February born bull blew away the competition with awesome structural correctness, being big topped, long bodied, and posting a NWSS weight of 1280 lbs and scrotal of 40.5 cm. His EPD's rank in the top 2% in nearly every category, combining calving ease with tremendous growth and length. Xavier was the champion bull at Junior Nationals and continues to get better every day. He is owned by Prairie Hills Gelbvieh, Royal Western Gelbvieh and Towerview Ranch of Alberta. Rounding out our new sire additions is KTHU El Paso X114. We purchased this powerful red Astro son from Hojer Gelbvieh. He offers us a combination of new genetics, with the depth and sog everyone can use. He posted a yearling weight of 1,354 lbs, in a frame 6 package! ![]()

We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to again breed a batch of females to PHG Top Shelf T50, a bull that sold in the 2008 Golden Rule sale to Danny & Sherri Marty of Halliday, ND. The Top Shelf calves display an excellent phenotype and have been popular with those who have had a chance to see them. The Top Shelf daughter pictured was one of the high selling females at the Canadian National Sale, selling to Towerview Gelbvieh of Medicine Hat, Alberta. We plan to continue using Top Shelf as part of our AI program going forward.
